The quest for Indian cartoon or comic character who does not step out from epic books continues. Meanwhile children’s TV channels continue to be inspired by India’s myth and legend. “Chhota Bheem” is now on fourth season on Pogo. Monica Tata, Vice- President and Deputy General Entertainment Network (S. Asia), Turner International India says that this completely reiterates our belief that ‘desi’ works better and is more successful.
Inspired by the story of Bhima, Chhota Bheem is the story of a nine- year old boy living in the fictional town of Dholakpur. This show has been on air since 2008 and because of this Pogo has the highest share and viewer time spent that ranging from 6.1 percent to 8.1 percent to 7.1 percent in 2010. This is according to TAM Media research of C&S 4-14 year old year all India audiences.
This is part of Turner’s Desi Toons portfolio, which has Indian content and localised properties for both Pogo and Cartoon Network. Chhota Bheem is special to Pogo as it is the channel’s pilot venture into producing local content.
