A digital crossover

Jan 06, 2012

Imagine leaving behind your passport at home and realising the same when you’re at the airport? Well, you could just try your luck by showing the officer a copy of your passport on your iPad. That’s what Canadian Martin Reisch did and managed to cross the border to enter the USA. He told the officers that he had to drop off Christmas gifts to family living in the States. Not amused, the authorities grudgingly accepted his scanned copy and let him pass. Usually, Canadian authorities ask for a passport, driver’s license or even a Nexus pass from Canadian citizens at land crossings. There is however, no mention of scanned documents, photocopies and the like. Reisch was overheard saying that in the future, one can even cross over countries with a digital device.
