Akshay Kumar, who was counting on his upcoming Joker to be a solo release, has had some rather disconcerting news. The August 30 release date for Joker means it would go up against Raaz 3, something Akki wanted to avoid, especially after his Khiladi 786: Made In Punjab is clashing with Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film.
“The sudden announcement of Joker’s release date has caught many by surprise,” says an industry insider. “Especially so, because the film’s shoot is complete. It was thought that it would release much earlier. However, Shirish Kunder wanted more time for the post-production, as it also involves lots of VFX and 3D,” a close associate adds.
The Bhatts aren’t convinced though and feel it is unfair that they may have to re-draw their plans. More so, because they strongly feel that Raaz is a brand in itself and will withstand any major competition. “Whether it’s Joker or any other film, our plan is final. We have three of our films releasing next year, including Jannat 2 and Blood Money. we can’t afford to move around release dates,” Mukesh Bhatt says.
