Food Prices
According to government data, the wholesale price index-based inflation rate for primary articles including food has increased from 1.4% to 312.5 from a provisional reading of 299.5 that showed on Friday.
The primary prices of articles have increased to 15.19 % than what it was last year. This has further accelerated the previous week’s expansion to 14.75%. This has increased the prices of commodities like milk, fish and fruits.
Food prices increased to 1.8 percent in the week that ended on Aug 21st from seven days earlier. The food inflation rate has stayed above 10 % since November because of limitations in food supplies. This situation has been due to this year poor rains which were lowest in almost four decades.
