Jain Center of Greater Memphis was privileged to have Swami Shrutpragya as chief speaker on Sunday, April 3rd, 2011. Among the other guests, David Waters from the local Commercial Appeal newspaper and Dr. Mark Muesse, Professor at Department of Religion at Rhodes college,Memphis, TN.
The celebration began with recitation of Namokar Mantra followed by a dance from Jain Center children. Dr. Manoj Jain introduced Mr. David Waters. David Waters spoke on different faiths. Mrs. Asha Bhavsar, Vice-President of Jain Center gave the introduction of Swami Shrutpragyaji. Swami Shrutpragyaji delivered speech on five sutras- Self-Introspection, Sanskar, Straightforwardness, Self-restraint and Service based on Lord Mahavira three jewels - Ahimsa, Anenkantvad and Aparigraha.
Swami Shrutpragyaji went on to say how the teaching of Lord Mahavira is even helpful in today’s stressful lives. Today Mahavira’s principles are more applicable than the time of preachings. Swami Shrutpragya advised that we need to change ourselves according to Mahavir and not try to change Lord Mahavira according to our own belief.
Jains are known and acknowledge by the other society today because of Lord Mahavir’s inspiration and teachings.
Lord Mahavir is a great omnipresence soul and so are his principles of Jainism.
The program ended with few questions and answers from the audience followed by dinner.
Besides Mahavir Jayanti event, Swami Shrutpgrayaji gave lectures on Bhaktamar and Uvvasagghara to Jains of Jain Center. The lectures were very educational and inspirational.
Also, Swamiji gave two lectures to the public Jains and Non-Jains on Karmic Account and Who has the remote control of your life? The audience left with very high spiritual satisfaction.
