Contraceptive gels is the new substitute to pills.A daily dosage of its application on arms ,legs shoulders and abdomen will prevent pregnancy and save one from the side effects of nausea and weight gain.
It works by providing a steady flow of progesterone and oestrogen through the skin , stopping the release from ovary. The working of the gel is similar to the contraceptive skin patch thereby eliminating any danger of transdermal patch or it falling off.
It is observed in a group of women belonging to the age group of 20s to 30s and they find it highly acceptable as they din't felt pregnant over a period of seven month.
The gel will soon be launched in the market if the response is positive.Ruth Merkatz, director of clinical development of reproductive health at Population Council research center in New York is heading the study.
The main constituent of the gel is Nestorone , a new synthetic progesterone akin to the normal hormone.
