The States of Ohio and Los Angeles are some of the States where Onam is being observed. The Kerala Association of Ohio is celebrating Onam at Broadview Heights recreation centre in Ohio.
The Onam festival falls within the first month of the Malayalam calendar, which is Chingam (August-September) and also marks the return of the legendary King Mahabali. It is the biggest and the most important festival in the state of Kerala, India. People wear new clothes: Men wear a shirt and mundu, while women wear mundu and a golden bordered shoulder drape called nariathu.
It is a ten day-long celebration and people celebrate it in a grand way with colors, food and clothes to commemorate their beloved King Mahabali.
In California, Oruma is hosting Onam in a big way at the Edward and Angelina Backs Community building from 10a.m. to 4:30p.m. today.
