Spring Festival 2011 -St.Louis

India Association of St. Louis hosted the Spring Festival 2011 on April 2nd. The event, started with a Rangoli competition held in two separate categories for adults and children. The winners of the competition were awarded gift certificates. The event also featured variety of stalls including food delicacies, merchandise and art from different parts of India. Later in the evening a magnificent and colorful entertainment program highlighting the spirit and mood of Holi was organized in which over 125 participants from different age groups participated. The cultural program was attended by more than 300 St. Louis Indians representing different regions. The diverse cultural program had 27 items ranging from classical devotional music to fast beat bollywood remixes. The program started with semi classical fusion dance choreographed on Ashta Vinayaka Stuthi followed by jugalbandi of Mohiniattam and Bharatnatyam. Kids of various age groups performed on songs like Hur hur Dabangg, Hoton pe aise baat and other popular bollywood songs. Later on the audience were treated to a soulful musical performance by a local group who played violin, keyboard and mridangam on bollywood songs like Tum paas aaye and Dheem ta dare. The evening ended with a few groups performing folk dances from different parts of India. The event was a big success and the performances kept the audience enthralled and spellbound for about three hours.
